Cohabitation
When a relationship breaks down there arises more often than not a very complex situation. To advise someone in these most difficult of times requires a high level of skill over and above that of merely being a lawyer. The adviser needs a sensitive approach, but must, in our view, in the interests of the client, be authoritative. This being said it is extremely rare that unbridled aggression is appropriate. That approach more often than not causes a bad situation to become worse with the matters taking longer to resolve, and at an increased cost. It is particularly inappropriate where there are children involved. Indeed, in any situation where we advise and there is child involved then that child's welfare is our primary concern.
In handling work of this nature confidentiality and discretion is paramount.
Inevitably when a couple separate there are financial issues to resolve. We represent cohabitees. Our work is to advise, and reduce the stress and emotional trauma for you our client. We consider it is absolutely essential that our clients have utmost faith in us as your trusted adviser. Colloquially, we will be "in your corner" and provide you with support when needed.
We believe in providing good value. We do not pretend to be cheap; excellence rarely is. However, we expect, and our clients tell us that they agree, to provide you with value for money. To that end, our Partners' hourly charging rate is £150 per hour plus VAT. In the light of the importance of issues involved such as welfare of children, capital assets, pensions and maintenance, we feel our charges are appropriate for someone advising on matters of this magnitude and who has these skill sets.
